Launching the Consumer Rights Wiki browser extension
Available now for Chrome and Firefox!

We started the Consumer Rights Wiki just over a year ago to create a comprehensive resource for the collection and presentation of anti-consumer practices. A resource to empower those seeking to understand and push back against the companies that are forever looking to extract more from us, whilst giving us less and less in return, and take away our right to own the things we buy.

That's why we're excited to announce one more step forward—the Consumer Rights Wiki browser extension is now available in both the Chrome and Firefox extension stores! This has been a while in the making, and now it's here thanks to the contributions and hard work of the extension team.

We've all had that moment after buying something, where we find out there was some great problem with the company selling it, that we wished we'd known before clicking 'buy'. Wouldn't it be great if you'd had a helpful little tool to give you a heads up before you spent your time and money on a fridge that forbids you from using your own water filters, or a car that wants to charge extra for heated seats?

The extension uses article metadata added by contributors to match the websites you visit and products you view to their accompanying wiki articles as you browse, helping you understand exactly what they're up to. The matching and searching all happens completely locally—your browsing data is your own, not ours, and not anyone else's.

A special thank you goes to Wayne for kicking the whole project off, to Sarang for keeping it going, to Sam (Schang1146) for his contributions to the Cargo article metadata system, to Jake for managing the project, and to our contracted developer James Dumay, who has done a stellar job of implementing the search.

Here at the Wiki, we've also completed and published our first annual report, including data from the survey in which over 2800 of you kindly offered your feedback on our work. The full report is hosted on the wiki and goes over how the wiki has grown in its first year, your thoughts on our progress, and our priorities for the future.

It's been a fantastic first year for the Consumer Rights Wiki. With your help, the next one will be even better.
